“Do not fear, only believe.” - Mark 5:36
Jesus overheard that the ruler of the synagogue’s daughter had passed away. There were some people trying to discourage the ruler from asking Jesus for help. This is amazing to me. After everything Christ had done for sick people His reputation spread throughout the region, and He became quite famous. Everyone knew what he was capable of, yet they still found it necessary to question what they had heard or seen. There were probably various reasons why people didn’t believe what they had heard or seen entirely, but the main reason, as Jesus points out here, was likely fear.
Jesus points out to “only believe” and to let it replace fear. Faith will drive out fear.
Fear increases where Faith decreases, and I can think of no better modern day example of this than the COVID Pandemic. No matter where you fall on the issue, we can all admit that fear was the driving force behind some of the decisions that were made. Faith affords you the ability to slow down and understand circumstances because Christians have Jesus, who is not of this world. He is above all! He is preeminent (Colossians 1)!
Faith will cast out fear. Faith in Jesus is not an empty pursuit. Jesus and what He did on the cross for us is as real as the device on which you’re reading this.
